I've had the same experience with Craftsman screwdrivers. My socket/ratchet set is another story -- it's 15 years old and works well. The 3/8" ratchet is a little sloppy, but it always holds. I use the 1/2" if I really need to get on something.
Another thought: The Husky line of tools at Home Depot seems to be a of very good quality. In my opinion, HD's lifetime warrantee is even better than Craftsman's, because there are more HD stores around, and they are open very early and very late (which tends to be when I'm working on my cars, and am more likely to need a replacement.)
Again, just my 2 cents... arguably worth that (especially after being adjusted for inflation)!
