I just did this in July. You CAN leave the tranny attached, but you will have to remove the rear transmission crossmember and mount or it WILL get hung up pulling it out. You will have to remove the hood, grill, radiator, housing, A/C condensor, and the upper radiator support in order to tilt the motor up and out. You should also pull out the battery, air filter box, wiper fluid reservoir and the radiator over flow tank. You may need to use a floor jack to lift the motor up off of the motor mounts first. It took me two weekends to remove the body panels, complete wiring harness and fuel related parts and label them, but only two hours to lift out the motor. If you don't want the car to get scratched while lifting out the motor, cover everything with old blankets and duct tape them in place before you start.
