I think you've probably got a fuel delivery problem. There can be several causes:
1) Floating crud in the tank - either from the cars age or something you picked up at the gas station. Either way, rust or dirt may be clogging the fuel pickup line inside the tank. As the gas sloshes around, you get some gas. then it clogs again. I had this problem with a Willys Jeep.
2) Water or other contaminant in the gas. I only suggest this because you say your problem began after getting gas. You can either add a can of stuff that will cause the water to homogenize with the gaosline, or you can drain the tank.
For 1 and 2 above, you'll be wanting to open the gas tank up to take a look inside. I'm not familiar with your car, but my PV544 is dead simple, since all I need to do is to remove the fuel gauge sending unit inside the trunk...
3) Crack or leak in a fuel line. You could be sucking air and not getting enough gas. Usually this problem shows up as a wet place on the fuel line. It may or may not drip on the ground.
4) Clogged fuel filter. This is the cheapest and easiest thing to replace, so I usually start with it.
5) An internal valve or jet in the carburetor that is sticking. You can try adding some fuel system cleaner to your gas tank, or you can disassemble the carb and clean it properly.
There are other problems that can mimic fuel starvation, including having water condensation inside the distributor cap and a timing gear/chain that is jumping a tooth or two...
Good luck!
