virginia auto inspections

I lived most of my life in Virginia, and think that their inspection system is tight but not unreasonable. The vehicle safety inspection system is operated by the State Police rather than DMV.

Here is a link to the State Police Safety Inspection website: http://www.vsp.state.va.us/safety.htm. It lists a nice summary of the inspection protocol, plus an "FAQ" section. The FAQ section has some important questions, such as the tinted window regulations which might be different in Virginia than in Florida. I think that it will give you a good overview of what they look for. It really isn't an unreasonable selection of things to look at. You can access most of the motor vehicle safety manual from: http://leg1.state.va.us/000/reg/TOC19030.HTM#C0070

The emissions inspection is different. Its run by the friendly Department of Environmental Quality. You can access everything you wanted to know about this at http://www.deq.state.va.us/mobile/homepage.html.

Hope your daughter enjoys Virginia. I think its a great state.

Mike
