Got a Converse 740/940 5.0/T5? Please read.

Given the manner in which the Ford oil pan front and rear sumps barely clears the Volvo cross member, it is unlikely that you have incorrectlty located your engine. Instead it seems that you are missing the shifter extension that Ross uses to move the shifter handle towards the rear about 2-3 inches.

The extension is simply a metal plate that bolts on to the shifter shaft on one side and on to the shifter handle on the other side. When I had a T5 in my car (I now have a T56) I ran with a Hurst shifter. I had to cut down the length of the shifter shaft in order to clear the lower dashboard, leaving barely enough room to bolt on the extension. I uploaded a photo of my T5 with the extension (7259.jpg). Be sure to use lock washers and/or Loctite on the bolts.
