"chipped" torque on a 2.4 LPT is 300+ with no other mods. on a V70R it's 340+. Many are running over 400lb/ft in 850's and S-V70's on stock drivetrain and racing them (which i won't be doing).
Really think a stock LT1 is going to break it?
Did you ever see the posted torque ratings for a GM 200-4R? 220lb/ft, I think. I ran a stock one behind my modded TPI 350 for a LONG time. Yes, AWD grab will play a role in this, I'm sure. I'm not saying it will last forever, just that it's much stronger than the stock RWD volvo trannies for some reason.
This brings up "Why not just chip and mod the 2.4?" In that instance, the trans is not the weak link - the engine is. "Why not just swap a 2.3 HPT engine?" Same cost as an LT1 and swap components...why not try it?
