Clutch throw

I've had a problem getting my clutch to release properly for a long time now. I thought perhaps it was the transmission, but now I'm thinking it's conversion specific. When I installed my new engine in January, I kept the same clutch, because it's still in good shape;it's a Centerforce Dual Friction. I did, however, change the pivot ball and fork. I also have a steel retainer. I almost installed a washer under the pivot ball, but changed my mind at the last moment. Would this have given me more pedal throw? BTW, I also removed the sound deadening mat(those things are heavy),which helped. The release point is already much higher on the pedal stroke than I'd like but it's still hard to disengage when warm. The original Converse cable broke within 4 months, so I've just been using the stock 700 seies cable for the past 4 years.
I'd sure like to find a cleaner way of sealing the shifter hole too - more difficult with the hurst(dust boot won't fit over kit "chunk of metal extension")I got rid of the Volvo rubber boot because it was causing the transmission to pop out of gear.
