My 1989 745 conversion is done !!!
A couple of questions:
1. I need a power steering pump. I have a stock 1990 5.0 HO w/AOD,3.73 rear, DOT 5 w/ ss lines. The PS pump's yowling, otherwise it works fine. I assume there's no cure for The Whine, so...Is there a heavy duty model, like for a 5.0 police application ? Or would this one likely to be noisier ? If a stock Ford item works best , I'm fine with that. I just need to know the best place to get one...
2. Strut braces,upper and lower: Of course, nothing from IPD will fit. Any suggestions ? Does anyone out there make them for a 5.0/745 conversion ? Car tracks straight, although I do feel some "give" when braking hard, like something needs to be tightened or ?? Steering's not loose,performs smoothly.
3. Experiencing a minimal but irritating shudder/thump as I move from a stop. I assume this is the center bearing or a U joint ? This happens only on takeoff,only for a couple of seconds.Driveline seems pretty tight, I don't have any problems at speed. Can this be adjusted or do I need to replace something ?
Just FYI: The suspension is stock , save for poly strut rod bushings and IPD sway bars. Wheels are 16" Hydras w/ 205 Michelin Harmony tires. I wanted a conservative daily driver... Overall, I like it !! I will eventually go for Bilsteins, but for now I'd be happy to get the strut brace issue solved.
The car rides much flatter w/ the sway bars, and I don't really feel the 130 or so extra pounds up front. But then, Im not flinging it through the turns ( I'd like to work on that over time, though ). It has a normal, level stance.
No outward evidence of the 5.0 except for side by side LX tips right where the stock Volvo exhaust normally exits.
I have a 1985 765T for parts, along w/ a B230FT and other misc . items for sale or trade...
