control arm - bolts attached to subframe V70-XC70 1998

I can't really get any clear instructions on replacing the control arm - it looks like their are four bolts attached from the arm to the subframe. I have only looked so far, but with the position of the oil pan, the bolts seems darned near impossible to reach.
First question: are these bolts (4 per side) indeed the bolts I need to loosen?
2nd : Is there a secret to getting at them?
3rd : any shortcuts or special info. I need when replacing this?

Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert, but I think I know how this works. Start by removing the sway bar link nut and loosening the 36mm axle nut. Then raise the car, remove wheel, remove the ABS connector, remove the brake caliper (suspend off spring) and the rotor. Make sure to use a jack stand.

Remove the axle from the hub. Separate the ball joint. Now you can get at the bolts/nuts that the control arm pivots on. 1/2" drive sockets work well.

I think this is basically what you need to do.

Don

I will tackle this tomorrow after renting the pickle wrench from autozone. Once the balljoint is detached, I guess I can expect to be able to access the bolts attaching the arm to the subframe. I will let you guys know.
Thanks Don.

Oh, I get it. Capitalizing both Nations and United did not have the significance that anyone readingthat sentence would infer. It has a secret meaning that only you know, and that you got from the aliens. Try changing the aluminum foil.

How about "unilateral? What special meaning that only you know was implicit there?

Once again, the equine paradox proves true. There are more horses' asses than there are horses.

Good deductions. The first time my timing belt went, I hadn't a clue what had happened.

Is the front of your engine oily? Ie. Leaking seals. If so, oil softens the belt and causes the teeth to shred off. Replace the seals. (You'll note I said "first time". I didn't learn from the first experience.)
