no drriver's side heat to floor on '97 850 850

my '97 850 glt has the automatic / temperature on the dial system... there is heat to the floor of the front passenger side, but the driver's side has none. rest of the system seems to work ok.

I've had cold feet before, but a ride of any length in the temps we are having is brutal for the driver.

any ideas?

thanks

I understand completely, having gone through that in my 1995 850. What ever you do, do not remove the motor with the electrics attached and then change the vent position on the dash. The motor has builtin stops and can break if you electronically go past the stops.
Lets hope it is just where the motor attaches to the vent. Use bailing wire and copious amounts of glue. Let the glue set for 12-24 hours before trying it out.
If you already have the setting for the floor vents, make sure the vent is open before glueing the motor back on. Otherwise the vent motor will not be able to open the vent flap. I would put the dash dial on defrost before pulling the motor off, fixing and re-installing.

Chances are it is either a bad damper motor or a split shaft on the damper flap. There are two damper motors on the driver's side of the climate box, the temperature control motor is the upper one. Remove the lower dash panel for access. If the shaft is split I have seen it repaired by wrapping it with many loops of small gauge solid copper wire - Sort of the way the joints on a fishing rod are wrapped.
