Slight surge V70-XC70

Hi, I have a 99 V70 GLT with close to 300,000km. After passing this car down to all three sons to use I now have it back and am doing a bit of catch up maintenance.

It has a surge primarily between 1500-2000 rpm. Intermittent. No codes being indicated. Generally, when cruising between this rpm it will feel like the brakes are engaged and slight reduction in rpm and then return to previous rpm. Sometimes in stop and go traffic it is worse. Sometimes not at all. It idles fine at 900 rpm. It accelerates fine.

I recently replaced all the PCV lines on the car as I was replacing the starter and just did that while I was in there. I also cleaned the MAF and throttle body while I had things apart. The surge was there before I did this and still is so it is not PCV system.

I have run injector cleaner and doesn't really do much. Fuel filter is being replaced this weekend. I am concerned it might be throttle body - given the age of the car and cost of throttle body, not ready to go there yet.

Anybody worked through this type of issue before?

Thanks, Steve
