brake pad / rotor combination S70

time to change pads & rotors, I don't want a combination that squeels or has lots of brake dust, so, what combinations of pads & rotors have you used that have resulted in squeel-less and dust-less operation?
Thanks

The Clymer service manual says to replace the rotor bolts as well when replacing the rotors. I have a set of Zimmermann's & PBR's ready to go, but do I really need to replace rotor bolts also?

I ended up buying stock Volvo rotors, and each rotor came with a 2 caliber bracket bolts, which I used, and tossed the old ones. Reading the Haynes manual I have for my car, it also says to replace those bolts when you remove & replace the caliper bracket. Each bolt had a red coating on the end of it, not sure what it was. The bolts I replaced also had the red coating on the ends.

ok. the caliper bolts. The red coating is probably anti-seize gunk.

I reused my original bolts and haven't had a problem. I'm sure its just an added safety measure, but one that isn't followed by any other vehicle I've changed calipers on (and I've changed more than a few). So I wouldn't worry about it (and I'm not worrying about it on mine - still loving the zimmerman/mintex combo, by the way).

I'm not really sure what the heck that means. There is only one tiny pin that I would consider a "rotor bolt." The others also hold on your wheel, so they are called wheel bolts (or studs) in my opinion. And, no, replacing your wheel studs would be silly. You don't replace them when you rotate your tires, so what is the difference? They aren't referring to the caliper bolts, are they??

Zimmerman/Raybestos QS S70

I have finally resolved the dust/squeel issue. I went with Zimmerman discs from FCP Groton and Raybestos Quiet Stop Pads from Rockauto.com

The QS pads are copper/ceramic and hold very nicely and don't dust anywhere near the stock pads...and not a peep out of them. They also don't have the 5 second wet delay braking that the PBR pads are known for.

Zimmerman/Raybestos QS S70 1998

Has anyone purchased the Raybestos Quiet Stops for their S70? Is it the same part number as for the 850's?? All I find is PGD618QS for 850's. Can't find any reference that says they can be used on S70 (T5). I think I have the 280mm rotors but not sure. I've checked Raybestos, Rock Auto, Auto Zone and Pep Boys web sites and the ceramics are not listed for S70's. Please advise,

Thanks in advance,

ah, yes, zimmerman. that's the name on the cross-drilled rotors I put on mine, too, that I couldn't remember.

I have two web pages on my site that deal with aftermarket brake pads for our cars. See the "Tips..." section of my web page, listed below.

dust = quiet + cool S70

Regardless of what anyone tells you, the softer the pad the quieter (and cooler) the brakes. In other words dust = quiet.

Very often a compromise package will be acceptable, a reduced dust pad with slotted or x-drilled rotors might make for a low-dust environment where the brakes hum a little louder, or perhaps growl under hard braking, but (maybe, hopefully) not squeal.

If you searched the board on this topic, you'll find some are happy with such a package - but the preponderance will report they've reverted to OEM because the dust was ultimately preferable to the noise. (I'd be one of the latter.)

but i like the growl/hum noise much better than the squealing I was getting before. I'm also hoping these rotors will last longer than OEM (I've never had to replace rotors on a vehicle unless the pads wore down and was scraping metal on metal - rotors getting worn down by unworn brake pads is ridiculous). And the pedal feel I have now with this set up is really nice. So humming be damned!

Well, I don't think there is any such thing as "dustless" since the pad material has to go somewhere. But, so far, I am VERY happy (and notice a big improvement) with the cross-drilled rotors and mintex pads I got from newandusedvolvoparts.com. The name of the rotors has escaped me at the moment, though.
