I re-installed my factory radio SC-813 after someone decided to still my aftermarket substitute. I connected an aftermarket CD changer and I want to connect an after market amplifier using the output from the AMP receptacle on the back of the radio. Has someone done this? I am looking for info on what is the output of that receptacle, the pin wiring codes and if any company already makes this type of interface.
Thanks
Rick.

Hate to keep posting here, but my email isn't working. Anyway, I went through the possibles box and found a Volvo male 6-pin din connector with about 6" of cable attached, which had come in plugged to a Volvo amp I bought. All you need to do is attach your RCA plugs and whatever length of wire you need. If you want it, give me an address and I'll stuff it into an envelope.
How big an amp are you looking for, if you don't already have one? I also have a NIB Pioneer GMX 364 4x70 which I bought but never used.

The amp pin-out for the 6-pin din connector is here on the board someplace, with a posting on connecting the 6-pin plug to a pair of RCA plugs. Use the search function and it'll pop right up.

Do you remember roughly the time frame, the server is a little impaired due to their upgrade. Maybe a search closer to the month of posting could handled by the server. If you dont that is fine I will wait until the servers are fixed.
Thanks, Rick.

I have used the 6-pin cables from '92 forward interchangeably, on CR 814 and SC 901, with Volvo amps from '89 up through the '90s, and found that the pin-outs are the same functionally ( not on the 2001+ units, though). For what it's worth, the piin-outs on the separate 6-pin cables from '89 on with the separate volvo 4 x amps give the same results as the pre-89 volvo amps with the built-in 6-pin cables.
Some of the posts on the pin-outs refer to the common speaker ground lead on the 6-pin cable being grounded to the shield; I have not found this to be the case, although the chassis-to-chassis ground is through the shield.
Double-check everything, including your perceptions, at multiple stages, bearing in mind that the pin numbering on a given post may be arbitrary, and that the male and female connections are mirror images of one another, and what you see at the back of a connector is the mirror image of the face of the same connector.
According to a posting of 11/23/00 relating to the 850 amp [which should be the same for this purpose]:
"If you look at the male connector with the 'keyhole' tab at 12:00, then pin 1 at 11:00 is front left speaker (+), pin 2 is front right speaker (+), pin 4 is common speaker ground...pin 5 at 1:00 is left rear speaker (+). The center pin is a remote turn on lead to the amp."
Post your findings and any tech tips from your project for the next guy. Hasve fun!

Thanks Bru, this will prove helpful, you wrote that you have used cables from 92 forwards, are these harnesses easy to find? I went to the dealer and they wanted 100+ $ for the harness, if its made even better than building from scratch. How much could I expect to pay in the used market?

BTW: when you get to Glenn Krejci's 5/25/99 excellent posting on the wiring for the SC 813 and modifications, you will find the Volvo part numbers for the male and female components for the connectors. Prices have gone up some.
If you can get to the junkyard and get any of the wiring bundles and connectors, you can save a bundle if you are not picky about original wiring colors--just disassemble connectors and reassemble as needed. If you're going to be under the dash in the junkyard, get the whole gemisch from any post-89 car you can get your hands on, and limit the parts you have to pay dealer prices on.
If you have access to a bench grinder, make yourself a selection of small screwdrivers and prying-type-tools for disassembling the individual wires from the connectors. After breaking several stainless steel dental tools on this part of the project, I used a couple of heavy coat hangers and made a whole handful of small tools in about 15 minutes, with varying types and angles of tips and handle lengths; also very useful when you need multiple hands to maintain prying stress on one part of an assembly while messing with another area (e.g., disassembly of the driver's door window switch panel).

For the din cables, I wound up a couple of times buying an amp I didn't really need in order to get the cable, around $25-30 total. Also wound up having a couple of special-application cables made for me at the local TV repair shop, after I got tired of burning my fingers messing up the soldering job. On the harnesses, I haven't done any good at all on the used market, and wound up buying the component parts from the Volvo dealer and making my own for the SC 901 installation ( a rather odd application for which there wasn't a factory harness anyway). If you are comfortable soldering annoyingly small bits of wire in tight locations, you can make your own din cables--I don't presently have access to the computer with the info on the suppliers of the 6-pin connectors, but I do know that some Radio Shack stores have had them in the past. If you have access to a junkyard, that's your best bet--take your seatbelt cutter to take the jackets\wire ties off the bundles without damaging the wires, and plan to spend some time upside down on the front floor. The din cables are part of a huge wirinig bundle on the factory-installed units, and are probably left in the car more often than not, altho frequently the connector stub is cut off along with the harness connector if the disassembly is done hurriedly.
For the part of the new harness to plug into the original vehicle harness, I just went with one of the Crutchfield connector sets, and modified to suit my purposes.
When the bboard search facility is working again, check for posts from Krejci, Mastmann,Rothe, and Stoney re pinouts and general electronic knowledge. Whatever you do, if you are planning to keep the car for any length of time, get the factory wiring diagrams or sign up for ALLDATA DIY and print theirs. The wiring diagrams will save you a lot of grief!

You are not kidding about the price I went to buy one of those harnesses and they wanted 100+$$ hence the idea of making my own Sorry it took me so long to write but usually if cant do it at work I only have the time in the weekend, lately work has been interesting to say the least so play time has been to a minimal. At least I got my changer working and it sound great (whitin expectations) Unfortunatelly junkyards around VA. Beach are pretty dry when it come to S70's I even tried to search on line whithout luck. Anyway from your posting and some others I am thinking on following the route of SC-901 for my 70. You take care Bru.
