Clunking over little pot holes is a serious hint.
My 850 did that and
I replaced first the top and right motor mounts and thought I was OK
for alignment...
It went to the alignment guy and he found a bad L ball joint and
crappy sway bar links. I just got the car at the end of June
and it passed inspection, and they check the ball joints.
It seems that with the strut style in the 850, you cant jack under the control
arm or you wont find a bad ball jount. You must jack under the frame or
regular jack point between the doors, and let the strut hang down, in order to check for a loose ball joint.
It went to alignment and after some funky nouses persisted, I fount the drivers strut up top awa toast, with lots of play since the steel bushing was broken away from the rubber and there was maybe 3/8" of play where the strut top
wore away at the seat. NASTY.
Check the ball joints again
Check the sway bar links
Prob replace the strut seats with OEM
I'd forget the bearing plate, my volvo guys here say they never go, it's
the rubber seat that craps out all the time.
