Hello All,
I have a 1999 XC with 123K miles on it. Recently, I noticed that if I turn off the engine, and turn the key to the "1" position, I can remove the key without putting the gear selector in "Park". I can remove the key in the "R", "N" or the lower gear selections.
I don't think that is right. As a safety feature, I would imagine Volvo would design the car that you had to put the selector in "P" before you would be able to remove the key. This caused a problem today. My wife stopped at a store, and got out with the key, but left the gear selection in drive (she normally drives a manual and is accustomed to just leaving the car in gear). When she returned from her errand, the car had rolled out into the street. Luckily, no accident occured and the car wasn't damaged. I don't want this to happen again.
