Transmision shifting problem 850 1994

Recently, my '94 854 Turbo started to have shifting problems on cold mornings. When our night time temps dipped into the teens my car's automatic transmission wouldn't shift immediately. Typically I would have to drive 3 or 4 blocks before it would decide to upshift. The fluid level is fine and the transmission fluid has been replaced with Mobile ATF at regular intervals.

I came up with a couple of ways around the problem.

Solution 1: If I let the car idle for 5-10 minutes, most of the time it would shift fine right away.

Solution 2: If I put the gear selector in the "3" position instead of "D", the car shifts fine.

I never had to worry about the transmission before even in subzero temps. Has anyone encountered this before and is this an indication of a transmission that is going bad?
