Rearview mirror snapped off. V70-XC70

My rearview mirror has always been very difficult to adjust. The dealer always said that is just the way that it is. My warranty ended 2 months ago, and the mirror promptly snapped where the connecting metal piece ataches to the ball that fits in the mirror. Anyone else experience this? Is it expensive and difficult to replace the entire assembly?
