I had a RMSL a little while ago, I tried the so called "Stop leak" etc bullshit out there to no avail. In my opinion those scam products do mor harm than good to your rig. A leak is a leak and should be maintained as such. Live with it until you can afford a repair. $1000.00 + seems a bit steep. I had mine done for $500 Canadian at the dealer.
