Hi there. I have a 2000 S70 GLT. Two years ago, at 23,000 miles, the original Michelin tires needed to be replaced. I found this unbelievable since, with other cars I have owned, those tires lasted around 40,000 - 45,000 miles. Anyway, I replaced all 4 tires with Michelin MXV4's (I think that this tire was similar if not identical to the original tires on the car): 195/60R-15 88V RBRL.
Two years later...today, with ~46,000 miles, I just had my car inspected. Although my vehicle passed inspection, I was told that there is excessive wear on the outer edges of two of my tires even though I rotate my tires every 5000 miles, check the pressure every 2 weeks, and keep the tire pressure at or close to 36 PSI (and my pressure gauge has been properly calibrated). I was told that these tires will need to be replaced very soon.
I drive this car gently and don't take corners at high rates of speed. I do not have a regular occasion to park in tiered parking garages either.
So, I'm looking for your feedback on which tires would give me the longest tire life while not compromising mileage, stability or all-season traction (I reside on Long Island, NY)...or my bank account.
And, BTW, the tires I am looking to replace were purchased, with free replacement certificates, at Discount Tire in Texas (the closest Discount Tire to me is North Carolina so I can't even drive in and try to forge a sympathy deal with them). Discount Tire will not replace this set for free or even pro-rate their replacements since these tires are not mileage-rated. The only way that they will replace these tires (for free) is if I have a 'road hazard' that makes the tire unusable. If you have some nails and 2x4s, perhaps that could help me as well ;^)
Thanks for your help.
