Serpentine belt failure

ok we just got this 850 about 6 weeks ago,We've owned 3 7 series and I'm not real familiar with these FWD ones yet.ANYway My wife called on her way home from work, said that all the dash lights came on and the car was hard to steer.I thought she lost a belt and asked if it was running hot,she said it wasn't,so I said go ahead and keep driving it home. She gets home and I see it's got a serpentine belt which is off and there's what looks to be a plastic idler pully is the culprit. The main thing that worries me is the head is ticking like it's out of oil! Please tell me that there's not something crazy going on like the oil pump being run by the serpentine belt!!! I know I need to change the oil,I *shoulda* done it when I got the car,but............Anyway I know some of my hydrolic lifter VW's got loud when the oil was too old,I"m hoping that's the case, but worried.

The question at hand is,Was there any potential damage done by her driving with the serpentine belt off? She said the car never got hot.As type this,I'm getting worried cause I think the car never READ hot cause the coolant wasn't pumping...It started right up when she got home and isn't shoing any signs of an overheated engine.Where can I find a diagram of the engine/accescories? Is the water pump ran off the serpentine belt,or the timing belt?

Thanks in advance.

*cringes*
