The new FWD/AWD volvos have an interference engine, which means that if the timing belt breaks it damages the engine head and the valves.
Serpentine belt failure can break the plastic t-belt cover and pieces of the cover can damage the t-belt which then leads to engine damage.
DO NOT drive the car, Remove the plastic t-belt cover and see if the t-belt is intact. If the t-belt is broken, I am afraid you have engine damage. You'll need a new head/valve job to the tune of $3,000.
