The amount of coolant needed to create the smell is almost microscopic. If you would have found a wet carpet, your coolant bottle would be empty. Get to a friendly garage and do a pressure test to verify the leak is at the core. If it is a leak, it probably is in one of the elbows at the core or a cracking hose.
