heater core??? 850 1995

I don't blame you for not taking it to the dealer. Sorry, didn't know you had the instructions already. You do know however that you don't have to use Volvo coolant, right? You're going to lose some anyway and it's not very expensive to refill (of course unless you use theirs) unless you collect it all in a bucket and refill. That is possible but it's your call, but I would check to make sure it's not discolored. If it is, I'd dump it and call it a couple month's long "flush." Autozone sells a coolant that can be mixed with any other coolant already in the system and it's got a pretty good reputation on other boards.
