The same thing happened on my 98 V70 after running high output H7s. Same wattage (55w) but they generated a lot more heat. Fortunately, I found a replacement connector and harness for about 20 bucks at a discount Volvo parts house. I had to remove the headlight assembly but it was pretty darn easy to do.
