Hi all. My mother just shipped me her 1995 850, 75k miles, from Florida. To my horror, the wipers make awful noise scraping across the windshield, even while there is wiper fluid on it (haven't tried them in rain/snow yet), which does not get cleanly swept. Mother says she thinks the problem started after she replaced the windshield about a year ago. About three months ago she had a new windshield wiper motor put in, and there are two-month-old wiper pads (not Volvo brand). I spoke to her mechanic, a Volvo guy, and he says this is a problem endemic to 850s, the scraping across the glass because of the curve of the windshield, and that there is nothing that can be done about it. I'm hoping he is wrong. I'm not sure the vehicle will pass inspection and even if it does I'll spend to get rid of that noise, even if it means a new windshield. Comments? Ideas? Thanks.
