Looking at 850 wagon 850

My list. This is an individual thing, you know. There are a lot of things, some large and some small, that go wrong on our cars.

'95 didn't have the ABS module problem that you will hear about in 96-97. I think the A/C components were decent by comparison to other years (I don't know which were worst).

Before the list, one important thing to get with an 850 is its service history so you know what has been done to it (there is so much to do). At a car lot may not happen.

1. Rear Main Seal doesn't leak
2. A/C works
3. Transmission function (look for strange shifting after warming it up and doing mixed driving)
4. Axle boots intact at wheels (turn wheels sharply to inspect)
5. Spring seats (squeak like crazy with small bumps at low speed only)
6. Seat leather condition (personal preference as to importance)
7. Tire condition (OK, important for any car)
8. Idiot lights on - '95 codes can be read by you under the hood with a button and LED if you know how to operate the interface. I wouldn't buy if a light other than the service reminder is on.
9. Brakes Wear fast on these cars. Try to assess rotor/pad wear.
10. Climate control (if equipped) seems to operate correctly. Change the temp up and down and see if it switches in and out.
