Thinking about trying my first 850, by a 240 driver. Comments 850 1996

I have an 850 GLT non-turbo. Just bought it 3mths ago after having owned an 89' 740 GL. My 740 was amazing!! It was such a great car, never had any strange issues, just basic maint. etc etc--sold it with 230K and it was still a strong ole brick. Now for the 850. She has been nothing but trouble!! As you can see by the posting, the all 850's from 93-97 have MAJOR A/C issues. All the A/C issues are expensive. In addition she has had other issues such as antilock brakes that cost $900 to replace, a costly timing belt replacement and a litany of odd noises that stem from CV joint issues and rear upper shock mount issues. The car is a piece of you-know-what! And to boot she doesn't even have 100K on her yet! I didn't even get into my other problems with the "minor" stuff, such as junk radio, crappy cupholders that cost $50 bucks to replace, blah blah blah. JUNK! I am keeping the car because I just paid so much to give her a tune-up and other things. Overall I am unimpressed. I hear the S70 is the best of the newer or the V70. Good luck, stick to finding an older 200-900 series Volvo with low miles--they're out there:)
