My 1998 V70 T5 automatic (96,000 miles) was diagnosed by my dealer as having to have its valve stem seals replaced as it is smoking. The wagon is smoking (whitish smoke) after a few minutes after startup, but not whilst being driven. I have the wagon since new and had it service regulary at the agents/dealer. Initially they incorrectly diagnosed a faulty turbocharger. The complete crankcase ventilation system was also replaced, but to no avail. I had the catalytic converter replaced prior to the smoking. In South Africa, our laws regarding emissions are for now less restrictive than the USA. Can anyone advise whether they have a similar experience as I have not read of such cases on the board.
