OzarkLee is on the right track I think. Take a wooden stick while the car is running and the AC switched on and "Tap" the compressor clutch assy. My guess is that you will see the compressor kick on. There are some postings on this issue, and from what I can gather is that the compressor clutch disk surfaces have worn to the point the the electromagnetic clutch can't be pulled in due to the excessive gap. Therefore, you will most likely have to remove a clutch shim or two. Do a search on the site here or Volvospeed.com and you can find some more info. Good Luck...
