AC compressor not working - where else to look 850 1996

It is non-turbo base model with 5 speed. Based upon your description it has the manual climate controls. The clutch gap opening is rather large. I would (without measuring) guess .060+

ok, I'm getting the idea of the clutch magnet not being strong enough to close that gap. But, why would the a/c light and radiator condenser fans not be functioning??
I will go measure that gap and get prepared for a shim job regardless....
