I think Will's right. I've never met an oil-soaked clutch that didn't have at least some forward power. I think a driveshaft fell out.

As a matter of principle, I hate to see a good car go down the road (even if on a flatbed). Having said that, I spent half of last Sunday fixing my 940 which had become positively unreliable. I was perilously close to replacing the entire car.
