I had the same transmission problem on my '95 850 turbo last winter. Only happened on those cold nights and the car needed a kilometer or so before the tranny would shift into the next gear. I had the PNP switch replaced and this problem never came back. It's unlikely to be a failed transmission - two most common tranny related problems on this model are the microswitch (which you had replaced) and PNP switch. Like someone on this board said before: "Volvo can't keep enough of these (the PNP switch)in stock during the winter months!"
