Umm.. 'water injection' is a very different beast compared to water-jets aimed at the intercooler.
The advantage of 'real' water-injection (injecting a fine mist of water in the intake airflow) is in the fact that it reduces combustion temperatures quite a bit as the water takes a lot of heat away from the combustion during it's evaporation.
This effect allows you to run at much higher boost settings before detonation sets in (less 'hotspots' in the cylinder). Because if this it can be used to combat detonation on low-grade fuel at stock boost levels too.
Also gives nice steam-cleaned valves and cylinders :)
