Re: clutch not smooth sometimes V70-XC70 1998

I have a 98 S70 T5M and bled the clutch (and brakes) 2 weeks

ago (actually, pumped all new fluid through). The clutch

felt much better for a few days. It now is back to where

it was which I would say is somewhat "chattery" when starting.

To be honest, I've never cared for how the clutch "feels"

when starting in first gear.

Note that the slave unit (on the front of the engine) is not

well mounted. It can easily be moved and rotated by hand.

There is a TSB that provides instructions (and, apparently,

some parts) to secure it better. I would expect that this

would improve clucth feel. I do not have the TSB number but

I do have the title for it (at home). I'll follow-up with the

TSB title later tonight. Also, I have never seen the TSB so

it may not apply to the slave itself (perhaps it is for

the activation arm in the bell housing, who knows). It just

struck me that the slave seems awfully loose.

On the plus side, it is fairly easy to bleed if you have a pressure

bleeder (http://www.motiveproducts.com/). Just disconnect the

battery since your hands will be down near the electric

cooling fans.
