Forgive my typists fingers, they meant to spell 'gross intake manifold leak'. Or unmetered air entering the intake manifold, which causes the ECU to enrich the mixture and foul the spark plugs.

Check for a cracked hose from the air cleaner to the throttle body, a crack in the vacuum tree, a loose vacuum line...
