I'd spend 4 times more than insurance and repairs, renting a Corolla or something else that I'd be equally unhappy with. I use the wagon for odd jobs and artwork and try to get out of town every 2-3 weeks. It's great freedom, and the street parking isn't all that bad in my neighborhood. I also like working on the car a little and my mechanic said I manage to spend way less than most people (thanks to this site I'd say). Been there with the public trans -just can't do it with family of four and all the stuff. 855 is perfect!
