It could be a gas cap leak, or most likely not. The generic p0440 means that there is a leak in the evap system, somewhere. Much sucess has been found to point to a 90 degree elbow near the fuel filter, in the passenger side rear wheel well.
Autozone will no longer clear codes. If they did, you could probably get tested immediately after the clear and it will not show up on the scanners for a day or two. The real problem is finding the leak, fixing it is easy.

Time to get on the web and get a scanner. You will save a lot of time if you have your own. Do a search on DTC and you will find a list of all codes.
