I might be thinking about this wrong.
The oft-referenced procedure for setting the drive cycle with the 2 slow, 2 fast, 4 start/stop, and idle periods in between sets the system to "ready"
Does that do anything at all to set the individual sensors??
I was able to *finally* get the evaporative emissions system to set "OK" but the secondary air system and the O2 Sensor Monitor still have yet to set. I put a lot of miles on the car this morning and afternoon and was rewarded with just a single sensor setting to ready.
I think need some more specific advice for how to set those two systems.
Do I set the Secondary Air system with multiple cold starts? If so, how many? Do I have to drive the car for a length of time after starting it? If so, can it idle?
Can I do anything else to set the 02 sensor monitor? I put in over 3 1/2 hours of constant driving mixed interstate, state highway, and city streets. I got no change at all from the those last two sensors after burning 1/4-1/3 tank of fuel and putting in well over a 100 miles on the tires.
Do these in fact, ONLY set with the specific drive-cycle? If so, what sets the O2 sensor monitor, where in the cycle is the 02 sensor checked? Is it part of the "Fuel Trim" cycle (initial 6 minute drive and 1 1/2 minute idle?
Secondary Air is supposed to be "checked" after the second slow-speed trip but if the system is not even set, then how could it be checked?
My 20-day safety inspection expired today and flushed my $40.00 inspection down the drain - not to mention at least another $70.00 worth of gasoline spent trying to set the system.
