Drivers door miseries 850

I looked at the boneyard last weekend and admired that all that was left
was the torn off tab from the guides in two cars.
I got a new guide plus an overpriced Volvo pop rivet to install.

Now how to get that critter in there? I'm told that the top of the
guide just gets forced into the door and I can't seem to get it to go anywhere.
Maybe I need tiny hands or there's some easy way that you only discover after
lots of pain? I'll ask my local mechanics what works.
