Re: Engine detailing & cleaning 850 1995

Tony, Most of what you said is good enough for the avrage guy who wants to just about keep his car clean and protected, but guys like me who have LOTS of time do quite a bit more.....and love it!

The one thing that stood out in my mind it the fact you said to use dish wash liquid for a car wash. I find this totally wrong.....the whole idea of dish wash liquid is to get rid of fats/oils/greese, and thats what most of the better waxes have in them. Even some of the polimer based waxes have a list of oils in them.

I also see you said not to "layer wax" . Well I find that is no problem with the better waxes(read$$$). I will wax my Volvo three times a month sometimes if it has been a rainy month, and I had to wash often. I find once a month to be about best using either Pinical Souveran, Zymol Volvo or carbon....or even Blitz One Grand...BTW these are all carnuba waxes.

Now....when I want to polish/clean the paint, I will use dawn dish wash liquid to remove all the old wax, then I will ues the 3M IHG(imperial hand glaze), and a good coat of Souveran, or you could eve use a product called Klass paint sealant first then wax. The sealent is a good thing to use before winter, because you know as well as I that no product will last longer than about three months max., but the sealer will keep protecting the paint long after the carnuba is gone.

Anyhow I could go on and on with the way I like to detail my cars, but I will save it for the detailing forum at www.autopia.com

Its just that this is one of the things I love to do....spending a avarage of 10-15 hours a week on just my S70/GLT alone.
