There is no rhyme or reason why Volvo's would "need them" as opposed to any other make of car. As you know, winter wheels are purchased to simply enhance and secure your winter driving through snow and ice.FWIW, I would pay more attention to the "type" of tire (snow,ice,wet,performance snow) and then the correct sizing and weight load. Another reason for purchasing a set of winter wheels is to get your nice (expensive) alloy rims off the road (salt and alloys don't mix). We purchased our first winter set last year after a previous winter of driving on snow with performance wheels...it was a nightmare!
