Added R134 and now the compressor doesn't engage.

The pressostat switch can be seen on the coolant pipe going to the firewall. Unplug it, and use a paper clip to route the current from one side of the plug to the other. The compressor should immediately engage, unless the clutch isn't working right.

I wasn't concerned about the pressostat because it was working before you attempted to add more R134a. It is usually best to use the entire can when the gas is that low. Turning the can to 90 degrees allows some of the fluid in the can to get into the system and help the charge. If you overcharge the system, like I did once, there is a pressure release valve (automatic) that will BANG and let the excess out.

The broom stick doesn't require a lot of pressure, Just a nudge will do.
