Gosh its hot outside here in Maryland!
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I checked all the hoses and they all appear to be fine. So here is what I've done.
I disconnected the hose from the purge solenoid up by the fan. I then proceeded to blow compressed air at about 10 PSI into the system.
I didn't feel or hear anything so I turned the pressure up to about 60 or so. Now I could hear it coming backing into the EVAP Canister. I then disconnected the small hose from the canister and blew air through that from the front and I could feel it, however I couldn't plug that one well enough so I may still need to check that hose that goes up to the tank. So a question here is how do I access those hose ends without dropping the tank? Where is the access panel in a 98' V70 for the fuel pump and what do I have to remove to get to it.
Ok, now back to the canister. I then disconnected the large hose that also goes up to the tank. I blew air in there and once I stopped I could feel the air rush back down and I could smell the gasoline. I feel really strong that this hose is fine.
So I went ahead and reconnected both hoses. In doing so I 1) broke the little yellow piece that clamps that large hose back onto the evap canister, and 2) I noticed that there is a lip on the EVAP Canister that the large hose needs to be over all the way for the yellow clip to work correctly. I'm not sure, but I don't think the hose when I removed it was over that lip. If that's the case then that would be my leak.
After all was assembled I blew air down the line again from the front of the car and I could swear that I heard air coming out of the top of the EVAP canister. I did it several times to make sure, so is this possible? How often does the EVAP canister go bad or spring a leak? I didn't check for one as I reset the MIL and am hoping that the large hose was the culprit as it may have not been seated correctly.
So does any of this sound plausible?
So here's what I'm going to do if the light comes back on...
1. pull the canister and check it. If it has a leak or a crack I'm going to try to seal it with RTV or something. The last thing I want to do is buy a new one.
2. Try to purchase just the little yellow clip for the large host to make sure it doesn't move, slip back or come off.
3. access the fuel pump area in an attempt to check those hoses that go back there to feed the fumes back and see if they are cracked or not. hopefully not cracked.
4. If none of these are the culprits, then it has to be one of the vales, either the one by the evap canister or the one by the radiator. Any suggestion as to which one to replace first?
Thanks in advance, looking forward to responses.
Matt
