Sin,
are you kidding me? Michelin Pilot tires??? You forget the class action lawsuit with the SIXTEEN (not 17") inch rims? There were MASSIVE numbers of blowouts with those tires (which I really like but they do not belong in the US market with its terribly maintained streets)...
I really do not think that this problem lies with the Pirelli tires...if the tire is examined and it is found that it was defective, warranty will cover it....but if someone hit a pothole (and I don't care how deep it is), then you cannot expect Pirelli and/or Volvo take responsibility for the stupidity and/or bad luck of that driver bearing the expense for replacement. Why should they?
I have been driving Volvos since 1994 and only ONCE I have cause a tire to form a bubble and bent the rim; on a 1996 854 R with the 17" rims and the Pirelli P-Zero Asimmetrico...and that was because I was not paying attention and run over the edge of a storm drain at 65mph...MY FAULT!
