I checked some of BrickBoards archieves and see that in 1997, 850R owners where indeed complaining about sidewall bubbles on their 17" Pirelli P-Zeros after 5000 miles. One tire dealer said he saw one 850R/week with the same problem.

Yes, I agree...

I would now go with another brand, but since I only have 5500 miles on my Pirellis that are less than a year old... I find it difficult having to swallow paying for new tires at this point. I will first try to exhaust my warranty options first.

I am surprised that Volvo has not changed manufacturers for their 17" setups since the problem seems to be an ongoing problem with the Pirellis.
