Thanks for the input, I posted the same question on alt.volvos newsgroup and one vote said yes, it was possible to swap them without removing the manfold. One vote said no, the intake had to go first and mentioned the connectors had to be replaced too or I'd be doing it twice. I do appreciate the feedback and it has helped but looks like I'm going to find out for my self again. Reminds me of the "book" instructions to replace the A/C compressor the radiator must be removed. Well it did not, I removed the A/C compressor and left the radiator in, and removed the A/C condensor to flush it out after the compressor failure all without following the "book".
