You may attempt to have the car scanned at an auto parts store.
I believe Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts will sometimes scan it for no charge.
At least that may give you some idea what's wrong.
Don't feel pressured into purchasing something right away just based on their scan. Simply use the scan results as part of the diagnosis at this time.
As for the drop in idle with the AC on, it is possible that the MAF sensor or Idle Air Controller (IAC) or throttle body is dirty and just needs a cleaning.
Is your air filter clean?
