OK...I've been reviewing past posts and, yet, here am I with another one.
Two decades of the 240DL wagon. A 1986 (gone 5 years ago) and a 1990 (with a '93 engine). My wife's a professional urban gardener, here in NYC, and I love to drive distances. It's been a great car for both of us.
Too many things going wrong, lately...so we're looking around. I'm handy, but no mechanic. Recently changed my rear shocks and brake pads. I'm good with that stuff. Oil change, too. Engine/tranny/electrical/etc: nope. Biggest problem is that it's just not reliable, anymore. Don't like my lady getting stuck, by herself. With me, it's ok. Gives her someone to yell at.
I drove a 2004 Honda CR-V, today. I guess it was ok, but the seats were like sitting in a bus terminal. Back seats are even worse. Like I said: I love driving distances and I think the 240DL has spoiled me.
So: we need a heavy duty wagon for transporting plants, soil, and an occasional small tree. And it must be able to drive comfy.
I'm curious about the XC70 series. I can get a 2004 with 118K miles for about $6000. Would it fit the bill? How's the turning radius compared to the 240DL wagon?
