Replacing spring seat is no fun 850

Oh, the reason I was posting this is, when they put the new transmission in a few months ago, they used new axles. The boot looks like it's leaking right at the metal crimp ring.....when you take a strut off, it is ok to let the axle and brake just hang down with no support? Did I over extend it?
