The VSS comes from the tranny and has no relation to your problem.
The CPS can inhibit spark at startup if there is no impluse, or incorrect reading. The CPS can produce a code.
Because it starts when cold, I would have ruled that out initially. An overheated coil would make more sense, but that was replaced and still no spark. I would have removed one of the spark plugs to check the spark, but that is just me. Besides, I like looking at spark plugs and verify that they are wet with gasoline.
